ATI programmers have released a hotfix that corrects the black screen and boot OS failure when Catalyst 8.12 is installed on Windows Vista, and two or more ATI Radeon HD 4850 video cards are working in CrossFire X mode. Image Fixes HD 4850 Vista Crossfire X ATI has released a new hotfix that should fix the HD 4850 Crossfire X mode issue in Windows Vista. This should fix both the black screen and boot OS failure with two or more ATI Radeon HD 4850 cards in Crossfire X mode under Windows Vista OS. Until now users with HD 4850 Crossfire running Windows Vista OS, had to stick to 8.11 Catalyst and according to some reports those that have two HD 4870 are still stuck with the previous driver. This driver specifically address problems that people have been reporting with multiple HD 4850 / HD 4870's setup through CrossfireX, in Vista. If you aren't having any troubles, you might as well just wait until the next big release, Catalyst 9.1.

AMD has released a hotfix for Catalyst 8.12. Here are the details on what it does. After installing ATI Catalyst driver release 8.12 for two or more ATI Radeon HD ™ 4850 graphics cards in a system with ATI CrossFireX™ technology, the system restarts and halts on a black screen. The black screen occurs prior to the loading of the desktop for the Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows Vista 32-bit operating systems.

Good to see ATI released a hotfix, Catalyst 8.12 driver today. Besides the usual performance tweaks, most notably, this new driver officially supports the Sapphire HD 4850 X2. We reviewed the Sapphire HD 4850 X2 last week, you can read that review here if you like. Some hardware reviewers complained that the latest Catalyst driver did not support the HD 4850 X2, even though the card has been out for about three months now. Instead, users had to download the HD 4850 X2 driver directly from Sapphire, or use the driver on the driver CD.
