AMD demonstrates Phenom II running at 6GHz
TweakTown's News RSS Feed — ... magazine. All types of other cooling were thrown at the CPU, but maybe most interesting of all was when LN2 was poured down the throat of the upcoming processor. Using LN2 and at an amazing -196 degrees Celsius (AMD Phenom II does not suffer from cold bugs – wow!), the processor was able to hit 6GHz and run stable benchmark loops of Crysis. AMD 45nm Deneb overclocks to 6GHz on liquid nitrogen
DV Hardware — ... cooling is. Well today AMD had some actual demonstrations at their gathering, and the Phenom II was able to hit 5 GHz at 1.6v by using dry ice cooling. Dry ice is CO2, and it goes directly from solid to gas (sublimation) at a temperature of -109.3 F (-78.5C for the rest of the world) at 1 atmosphere. So with some pretty extreme cooling (non-LN) the Phenom II does show that it has some legs in the clockspeed department. More details at PC Perspective and Legit Reviews. AMD's 45nm Phenom II Chips Overclocked To 6+GHz
CRN Custom Feed RSS — ... and Legit Review's Nathan Kirsch Thursday, but held back on outright endorsing the numbers originally cited in those stories. Respecting AMD's wishes, we'll just point out that PC Perspective's story now says, "The Phenom II reached WELL over 5.x GHz (read: REALLY over)." And another source gives a more specific number -- 6.3GHz, though again, that could not be confirmed by AMD. AMD, headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., reached such overclocking heights using liquid nitrogen to cool the processor that was taken to "WELL over 5.x GHz." PC Perspective reports that the ...

Phenom II X4 Overclocks to 6.00 GHz on LN2
techPowerUp! — ... At this point the exact frequency isn't known. Cameras weren't allowed at the event, and so not clear pictures were taken. Earlier the company had released slides to its channel contacts, telling that Phenom II would overclock very well, and 24x7 overclocks beyond 3.60 GHz on air didn't sound unreal. At the same event, AMD showcased Deneb chips doing 4.00 GHz on air (with vCore set at 1.6V). Sources: NordicHardware, Legit Reviews
