Apple this week quietly announced plans to begin selling an aluminum 20-inch iMac configuration to qualified educational institutions for just $899, effectively closing the book on the white 17-inch legacy model that had previously assumed a similar role.

... and a tiny 160GB hard drive. The rest of the specs seem to be similar with the Nvidia 9400M chipset and an 8x DVD writer, sorry SuperDrive in Apple speak. It seems outright stingy by Apple to only supply 1GB of RAM considering how cheap memory is and most schools would have to upgrade this either prior to purchase or at a later stage. Still, it's cheaper than buying the retail model and it seems like Apple feels that students doesn't need a powerful computer at school. More here Also read ...
