Motherboard makers confirm Phenom II X3 unlock
Fudzilla —
... success has been reported from Biostar, Gigabyte and others as well. According to some other information on the net, this can be done on 0904 batches of Phenom II X3 CPU's and still we must note that there is no guarantee that is will be stable as some of those CPUs are indeed a true triple-core due to the some sort of defect on the fourth core. The other theory is that the forth core is simply disabled and that all four cores works just fine. You can find the noted screenshot here .
Motherboard makers confirm Phenom II X3 unlocking
DV Hardware —
... to get access to all four cores, and today VR Zone received confirmation from motherboard makers that this is indeed possible. To make this trick work, you'll need a Phenom II X3 from the 0904 batch and a motherboard with ACC support. You'll also need to test whether the fourth core is stable enough, because the triple core series was originally created to get rid of defective quad-cores so there's no guarantee that this unlocking will work. ...
Unlocking A Fourth Core On Phenom II X3 CPUs?
Overclockers Club news Feed —
... What if you could take your triple core Phenom II X3 and turn it into a quad-core CPU? According to some sources, this is actually possible, providing you have the right chip and motherboard. Using the Advanced Clock Calibration setting in the BIOS, it seems that some boards will detect and use a previously disabled fourth core. Of course, there is no guarantee that even if you have a chip that will co-operate that the fourth core will be stable enough to be usable. That would make sense considering it likely AMD's process for binning X3 CPUs wouldn't leave many ...
More details emerge about Phenom II X3 unlocking
The Tech Report: News —
... an article on a Korean website that showed how to unlock the fourth core on a Phenom II X3 710 processor. Today, the folks at VR-Zone have gleaned some new information about the subjectand they say unlocking isn't just possible on the Korean site's Biostar mobo, but also on boards from DFI, Gigabyte, "and others." Unlocking purportedly works only with Phenom II X3s from the "0904" batch (meaning chips made on the fourth week of 2009), and just like the Korean site showed, enabling Advanced Clock Calibration in the BIOS should do the trick. As VR-Zone points out, however, ...
Gigabyte, Other Boards Take X3 to X4
AMDZone Frontpage —
VR Zone reveals that other boards include the Gigabyte 790FX and DFI 790FX motherboards can also take a X3 and trick it into a X4. From what we know, only 0904 batches of Phenom II X3 can be unlocked. Basically, it just uses ACC core to trick the CPU to enable 4th core that has been classed unstable by AMD. However, not all unlocked Phenom II X3 will be stable so you will need some luck here.
