First Look: SilverStone Raven RV01
First seen at Computex 2008, the new SilverStone Raven RV01 has arrived in the bit-tech labs. With its mobo tray rotated 90 degrees, the Raven points your graphics cards upwards and uses the laws of thermodynamics to keep them cool. We take a first look at what might be the future of case design.

DarkVision Hardware Articles and Review from around the web — ... deal of the vertical card arrangement. The problem could be that the case isn’t long enough, but it could do with being a bit longer anyway to allow better cable routing. And it’s not as if this isn’t a big, iconic, good-looking case – we won’t begrudge it taking up a little more desk space. We’ll have to wait to see just how cool the unusual orientation of the expansion cards keeps hot PC hardware, but we welcome your thoughts from this initial look on the comments below. TweakTown's News RSS Feed — ... connections for your expansion cards end up facing directly out the top of the case as opposed to behind it. Silverstone say this is intended to facilitate cooling by having cool air pulled in at the bottom and exhausted directly out the top. On the downside, cable management woes are plentiful and it brings a number of other issues into play which will leave you thinking twice before falling victim to its stealthy but somewhat alluring appearance. bit-tech.net Hardware Feed — ... I/O ports consist of two USB 2.0 ports, one 6-pin FireWire port and headphone and mic ports. Like the SG03, underneath this is the bezel covering the external 3.5" drive, which has also been finished in the same brushed aluminium. The single external 5.25" drive uses a block of plastic covered in brushed aluminium that sticks to the optical drive door via a bundled piece of double-sided adhesive. It’s not often you see plastic in Silverstone cases (as long as nobody mentions the Raven ) but if this piece was made exclusively of aluminium it would probably add another £30 to ...

SilverStone Raven RV02 Case Review
bit-tech.net Hardware Feed — ... , the original Raven RV01 was an expensive mess of plastic with many flaws. However, SilverStone has persevered with the idea of pointing a PC’s exhaust fans upwards, and has also heavily revised the basic design of the RV01 in light of the heavy criticism that most publications levied on it. The new RV02 looks far better from a thermodynamics and system building point of view, and has the bonus that the exterior looks like something Lucius Fox forged in his lab. Rather than sucking in air from the front of the chassis and pushing it out through the back, the RV02 sucks in ...
