AMD cheating in Shanghai vs Xeon power efficiency SPEC benchmark
DV Hardware — ... Sylvie Barak from The Inquirer writes AMD has submitted power efficiency benchmark scores of their upcoming Shanghai processor to SPEC. The power efficiency of Shanghai isn't as good as the one from Intel's latest Xeon chips but she noticed AMD also submitted results of a suspiciously poor performing dual Xeon L5420 system. We'll have to wait until Wednesday to see if it's true, but Barak speculates AMD may use these borked Xeon L5420s results to make their Shanghai chips look good on paper: ...

AMD Shanghai Shenanigans
TweakTown's News RSS Feed — ... it seems that AMD’s Shanghai receives a score of 860 at 2.7GHz and 731 at 2.5GHz. These are far below the Intel scores of 1064 for a Xeon X3360 2.8GHz and 1010 for a Xeon L5420 2.5GHz. To further confuse the issue AMD released its own results for the L5420 which are a little more than half what is shown on the SPEC site (561). The Inq calls shenanigans with numbers. On Saturday, AMD sent a rebuttal to the Inq explaining the numbers and the configurations used. Read the full story here Read AMD’s rebuttal ...

AMD unleashes 45 nm Opteron processor
TG Daily - Hardware News — ... performance. The company also promises that a quad-socket Shanghai will beat Intel’s E7450 Dunnington processor in Java server performance and almost match it in integer performance. These results provide the overall impression that Shanghai will be a very competitive offering, especially if we hear that Shanghai has lots of headroom for clock speed increases. But there are also notes that AMD isn’t playing entirely fair with its published benchmarks. The Inquirer, for example, found that Shanghai may actually be slower than Intel’s Harpertown in some key benchmarks, and ...
