Imhad Sousou, the head of Intel's Open Source division, said at a recent conference that Intel hopes to reduce the boot time of its' OS to 2 seconds. Several aspects of the OS can already load in seconds, and Intel feels that 2 seconds for everything is doable. The quick boot time would be essential for the intended uses of Moblin, such as car computers. Tests of the latest Moblin 2 alpha release show that the major components of the stack, including the graphics system, can start up in mere seconds.
