Intel firmware addresses X25-M, X18-M SSD slowdowns
The Tech Report: News —
... 3:57 PM on April 13, 2009 Good news, users of Intel X25-M and X18-M solid-state drives. Intel has released a firmware update that addresses (and apparently resolves) a performance problem caused by internal fragmentation. Here's the skinny, in Intel's words: This update implements several continuous improvements and optimizations to the drive algorithms including a resolution for a performance issue first reported by the ...
Intel fixes SSD performance issues with new firmware
TechSpot —
Intel has released a firmware update for its Intel X18-M and X25-M solid state drives addressing an issue first reported back in February. Specifically, PC Perspective had discovered that the write combining feature in Intel SSDs caused internal fragmentation and in some cases saw write speeds dropping to 25-30 MB/s levels. As a result of this fragmentation, PCPer found that a used X25-M will always perform worse than a new one. While Intel first downplayed the issue, claiming it was highly unlikely that end users would be affected under real-world conditions, the company has ...

Intel Updates SSD Firmware
TweakTown News RSS Feed —
... a firmware update for the X18-M and X25-M solid state drives. Not only does the update include serveral continuos improvements but it also has a fix for the performance issue that PC Perspective uncovered earlier this year. For those unfamiliar with the issue, it was shown that Intel's SSD's could experience severe performance degridation after extended periods of use. The new update brings the firmware up to v1.1 and can be downloaded from here. This update implements several continuous improvements and optimizations to the drive algorithms including a resolution for a ...
Intel Issues X25-M Firmware Update, Upgrades Algorithms
Techgage News —
... the originating article was published, and denied that they were able to replicate the issue. Well, it seems that didn't last too long, because last night, Intel shot out an e-mail saying that the issue has been fixed, and that a new firmware update was made available for those interested. When I followed up to make sure that the problem was actually fixed and not simply reduced, I was told, "The issue reported by PCP has been fixed completely".
To download the fix, you can go here. If you require support for whatever reason, you can refer to the support ...
Intel Releases New Firmware for its X18-M and X25-M Solid-State Drives
techPowerUp! —
Intel has released a new firmware for its high-performance X18-M and X25-M solid-state drives. The new update brings the firmware up to version 1.1 and aims to further improve the performance of the solid-state drives. Intel SSD firmware fixes internal fragmentation issue
DV Hardware —
Intel's X25-M and X18-M solid state disks just got better, the chip giant has released new firmware that addresses the internal fragmentation problem which resulted in lower performance on used disks. Additionally, firmware 8820 also offers several continuous improvements and optimizations.
The update can be downloaded over here and a test report of the new firmware can be read over at PC Perspective. The reviewer concludes the weak link of the Intel X25-M SSD has now been removed, even when well used the write speed of the drive now remains close ...
