Report: Unlocked Pentium E6500K found in China
The Tech Report: News —
... 9:44 AM on August 7, 2009 AMD has been making Black Edition processors with unlocked multipliers for about two years now, while Intel has continued to lock multipliers on all but its expensive Extreme Edition processors. Could the status quo be about to change? Expreview has found an odd specimen at a retail store in Guangzhou, China: a purportedly unlocked dual-core Pentium. Photos show a label identifying this processor as a Pentium E6500K with a 2.93GHz stock clock speed, 2MB of L2 cache, and a 1,066MHz front-side bus. The package is blue and black, and Expreview says it ...

... MHz, compared to its E5000 cousins that sport 800 MHz FSB. Aided with a 2 MB L2 cache, the E6500K is expected to go head-on against competing AMD chips. Currently available in China for RMB 1299 (converts to $190) as part of bundle with Biostar T-Series TP45E motherboard, the E6500K is expected to retail soon for US $89. Incidentally, the "K" in E6500K refers to "black" in digital imaging jargon.

Asian tech site Expreview reports a new Intel Pentium E6500K processor model has hit stores in Guangzhou, China. With this model Intel seems to be aiming at overclockers, the chip features an unlocked multiplier and isn't bundled with Intel's stock processor cooler. The Pentium E6500K is a 45nm chip with 2.93GHz clockspeed, 1066MHz FSB, 2MB L2 cache and support for Intel VT. ...
Phenom II X2 BE: Intel Style
Overclockers Club news Feed —
... AMD's business model must have struck a chord (and nerve) with Intel. AMD has two great dual-core processors, the Phenom II X2 and the Athlon II X2. These newer processors run on the AM3 socket and are fabricated using the 45nm process, but the bigger news is that they are sub-$100 with loads of extras for our overclocking pleasures (unlocked multipliers, and even unlocking cores). Up until now, Intel's pickings in this market were slim. Now, they are unveiling the E6500K. The new processor is based off of the 45nm Wolfdale-2m core, and comes clocked at ...
Intel Starts Pilot Production of Mainstream Chips with Unlocked Multiplier

... processor system bus. The chip is made using 45nm process technology, thus, can operate at very high clock-speeds; however, traditional overclocking would require high-end mainboards supporting PSBs with higher than 1066MHz frequencies. With unlocked multiplier, end-users may increase only the clock-speed of the CPU and do not have to stress other components of the system, e.g., mainboard or core-logic set. Currently Intel Pentium E6500K is available in Guangzhou, China, reports Expreview web-site. The chip is sold in bundle with Biostar TP45E mainboard for ...
