... Intel has decided to bring forward the launch of its single-core Atom N280 processor bundled with GN40 chipset to the second half of February instead of in the second or third quarter as previously planned, according to sources at Taiwan notebook makers.

More goodies for netbooks I'd bet that the netbook makers have been pressuring Intel to bring out a chipset for the Atom that can do HD playback. Digitimes reports that Intel will be launching the Atom N280 and the GN40 chipset earlier than previously thought - in the middle of this month. The Atom N280 is a minor tweak of the N270 - it runs at 1.66GHz (instead of 1.6GHz) and has a 667MHz FSB (instead of 533). The GN40 chipset has a better GPU than the 945GC and can reportedly play 720p video with an Atom.

Intel. Corp., the wold s largest maker of microprocessors, plans to speed up the launch of it new microprocessor aimed at netbooks. The release of the new chip will be accompanied by the commercial launch of the new low-end computing platform. Intel Atom N280 processor works at 1.66GHz and uses 667MHz processor system bus as well as Intel GN40 core-logic, a special version of Intel 4-series chipsets with DirectX 10-class integrated graphics core and new input/output controller.
