Lenovo Ideapad S12
DarkVision Hardware Articles and Review from around the web —
... Lenovo is best known for its ThinkPad business laptops, but its IdeaPad range provides entry-level systems for both corporate and consumer use. The IdeaPad S12 is its 12.1-inch offering and strikes a balance between a netbook and a full-sized ultraportable. As one of the larger netbooks available, the 1.6kg chassis lacks the mobility of its rivals. Link: TechRadar

Review: Advent Roma 1000
TechRadar: Computing reviews —
Advent is PC World's in-house brand and provides high-quality yet affordable laptops. The original Roma won our Gold award in issue 128 and the Roma 1000 (£349 inc. VAT) now manages to continue most of the strengths of its predecessor. Read TechRadar's Advent Roma review The 2.9kg chassis is quite heavy, making it better suited to home use than travel. Portability is further restricted by the truly awful 97-minute battery life – one of the worst mobility scores of any laptop we've seen at this size. The black design uses a combination of matt and glossy plastics to stylish effect. The glossy lid attracts scratches and fingerprints, but the matt interior is ...
Review: eMachines G725-422G25Mi
TechRadar: Computing reviews —
The eMachines brand is a sub-division of Acer and offers a more affordable alternative to its consumer Aspire laptops. The G725-422G25Mi is a large-screen, entry-level media centre and is a good choice for those seeking a desktop replacement on a budget. The 17.3-inch Super-TFT screen is well suited to entertainment use. Its widescreen aspect ratio is ideal for watching DVDs and its increased width also makes it easy to simultaneously work with multiple windows side by side. Image quality is mixed. The panel is very bright, but this leads to a slightly washed out appearance. Colour and contrast are excellent, however, so photos and videos look great and the sharp 1600 x 900-pixel ...
Review: Hi-Grade Notino W5900
TechRadar: Computing reviews —
Hi-Grade is a UK-based manufacturer that offers entry-level laptops at affordable prices. The Notino W5900 combines an eye-catching design with impressive components but, ultimately, performance fails to impress. The slim chassis is compact and suits basic travel use. At 2.7kg, it can comfortably be carried on short journeys around town. Although bettered by the eMachines and Toshiba, the 175-minute battery life will let you work on the daily commute. The combination of a glossy black lid and matt-silver interior provides an eye-catching look. The lid is prone to scratching, however. Build quality is generally strong, although we did notice some flex to the palmrest when typing. ...
Review: Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-2CH
TechRadar: Computing reviews —
Toshiba's Satellite Pro range targets home and business users. While the L300-2CH is a bulky device with a limited specification, its strong usability and vibrant screen compensate. This laptop features a 15.4-inch Super-TFT screen, rather than a true widescreen panel. Quality is excellent, however, with impressive brightness, colour and contrast and sharp images. The screen is as suited to entertainment use as office work. The plain black and silver chassis is designed to provide a degree of anonymity for corporate users. As a result, it lacks the eye-catching style of the Advent Roma 1000 or Hi-Grade Notino W5900. Build quality is fantastic, however, and easily matches the ...
