    I'm not sure if this is the best method. If you get an AM3 processor it will still be using DDR2 which should result in decreased performance compared to DDR3.

MSI issues list of AM3 compatible motherboards
Fudzilla — ... Most of the motherboards are based on AMD's 780G and 790GX chipsets with couple of motherboards based on the 780V and 770 chipsets. There are also some with Nvidia's 780a and 750a SLI chipsets. MSI made sure that the list included its top notch DKA790GX Platinum and DKA790GX which are first AMD motherboards to come with DrMOS. All we need now is some AM2+ 45nm and AM3 45nm CPUs so that we and probably even MSI would be happy. You can find the full list and BIOS links here Image
