This morning, Toshiba announced a new 1.8" mechanical hard drive lineup , the MK3233GSG series, which combines capacities of up to 320GB with 5,400-RPM spindle speeds and Serial ATA interfaces. Toshiba aims these puppies at "thin and light mobile PCs and portable external hard disk drives." The company boasts about having reached a platter density of 516 gigabits per square inch, which is purportedly the industry's highest for 1.8" hard ...

The most capacious 1.8-inch hard drive on the planet now checks in at 320GB, says Toshiba, who just introduced a new line of tiny HDDs
Toshiba's targeting thin and light mobile PCs and portable external HDD contraptions with its new storage series, which also includes two other models sized at 160GB and 250GB. All three drives sport a perpendicular magnetic recording head, efficient power consumption, a high level of durability, and quiet seek operation, Toshiba says.

[image] Mobile storage is getting smaller and yet the capacity is getting bigger and bigger. Toshiba has announced a new line of 1.8 inch HDD with maximum storage capacity of 320GB. This is the highest that is yet announced for the 1.8'' form factor. The new series will also come in 160GB and 250GB capacities. All of the drives will feature perpendicular magnet recording head and the disk's magnetic layer secure an areal density of 801Mbit/mm2 .
