Maximum PC — ... . The 2TB drive carries Western Digital's GreenPower moniker, an eco-friendly designation WD claims represents a 4-5 watt savings over standard desktop drives. According to Western Digital's product page , the new drive sips up to 7.4W during read/write operations, 4W at idle, and 0.97W during sleep or standby. Other specs for the WD20EADS include a 7200RPM spindle speed and 32MB of cache. The drive sells for AU$378, which converts to about $250USD. No word yet on U.S. availability or pricing. [image]

Western Digital Announces 2TB HD
Overclockers Club news Feed — Rumors that began appearing earlier this month about the imminent release of Western Digital's 2TB drive had the release date wrong. However, WD did make it official today by issuing a press release touting the world's first 2TB disk drive. The new drive will be part of the company's Caviar Green family and makes use of perpendicular magnetic recording technology to achieve areal densities of 400Gb per square inch on its 500GB platters. The drives feature 32MB cache and are available now at a MSRP of $299US.
